Avelino GONZALEZ GONZALEZ

Avelino GONZALEZ GONZALEZ has a solid background in mechanical engineering and hydraulics. He further acquired a worldwide extensive professional expertise by working in water engineering companies over 15 years. He moved to the public sector end of 1996 and joined the European Commission department dealing with environmental research and innovation policies, where he focussed most of his activities on developing and managing water related research programmes.

He is currently working as Senior Policy Officer in the Water sector attached to the unit "Circular Economy & Bio-Based Systems" in the Directorate General for Research & Innovation of the European Commission. Particular fields of interest are water technologies, water pollution and alternative water sources.

Caroline GUILLET

Caroline GUILLET has joined GAC in 2017 after four years working in international development. She has been involved in a number of European initiatives. She has strong knowledge about local, regional, national and European support programmes and tools regarding innovation and competitiveness of companies: clusters programme with the European Cluster Collaboration Platform, regional strategies such as Smart specialisation (S3) through ReConfirm.

Caroline is also involved in several H2020 projects: LOTUS on water quality monitoring, an EU-India cooperation project, and GOTHAM, on the sustainable use of groundwater around the Mediterranean. She carries on a wide array of activities, socio-economic analysis, stakeholder engagement network management and animation of workshops.

Catherine FREISSINET

Dr Catherine FREISSINET is head of R&D and Innovation in the Environment department within Artelia’s Water & Africa-Middle East sector. She oversees and coordinates activities relating to Research & Innovation programmes in France (national research agency (ANR), ministries, competitive clusters, FASEP Green Innovation), in Europe (FP6, FP7, H2020, EUREKA, MSC, Interreg, ERANET WJI, EIT KIC Climate, etc.) and internationally (Qatar Foundation). On account of her experience in supervising and assessing R&D projects and programmes, she is regularly appointed by the European Commission and also private clients to provide expert evaluations and advice on various matters.

Clément EVROUX

Clément EVROUX is graduated from SciencesPo and Luigi Bocconi University in Milan. CNRS engineer, he has held positions related to the European research area and R&I framework programs at the CNRS headquarters and at the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, before joining the European Commission (DG RTD) to participate in the co-design of the Horizon Europe program.

Daniel GASSMANN

Daniel Gassmann is Head of Sector managing the H2020 “Innovation in SMEs” programme at the Executive Agency for SMEs (EASME). Prior to that, he was leading the Enterprise Europe Network services. Before joining the Agency, he had worked for 12 years at the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry where he held several management positions related to the provision of services to companies. He has also written two books about EU Funding. He graduated as lawyer at the Sorbonne University (France) and the University of Cologne (Germany). He also holds the executive MBA of ESCP Europe, European School of Management (Paris, Berlin, Madrid, London, Torino, Warsaw).

Daniel PIERRE

Daniel PIERRE has been involved for more than 20 years in Research, Development & Innovation (RDI), especially in Information Systems dedicated to Geosciences - Environment. He has been particularly active in several European collaborative R&D projects notably as founding CEO of the Géo-Hyd SME (H2020 AQUANES project, 2016-2019). He has extensive experience in RDI activities governance: founder of the cluster DREAM Water and Environment in 2010, vice-President of the France Water Team since 2019 and pilot of the “metrology and environmental engineering” specialisation field (S3 of the Centre Val de Loire region). In 2018 he became Group Innovation Director for the entire international group ANTEA.

Dominique DARMENDRAIL

Dominique DARMENDRAIL is the Water and Global Changes Programme Director at BRGM since September 2021.

From November 2014 to September 2020, she was the coordinator of the EU Water Joint Programming Initiative (www.waterjpi.eu), a network of research funding agencies which aims at increasing coordination in European research, development and innovation (RDI). She coordinated the preparation of the Horizon Europe Partnership Candidate Water4All – water security for the planet for Horizon Europe.

She holds a Doctorate on Hydrogeology and Hydrogeochemistry from the University of Bordeaux (France).

Eric MINO 

Eric MINO has 25 years of international experience with more than 15 years with the International Office for Water. He is managing the institutional cooperation network SEMIDE between water authorities from EU and South Neighbourhood countries. He is contribution to the water and climate working group of the Union for the Mediterranean. During all his international experience, he has been involved in EU Research Framework programme, in particular during recent years on FP7 water demo projects and H2020 innovation actions.

Francisca MEDINA


Francisca MEDINA is a project manager for CEW. She has a degree in Chemistry and a master in Environmental Engineering. In her career as a scientist, she has participated in R&D projects, related to developing advanced materials, electrochemical systems, biomining processes, among others. As consultant and project manager, she has supported companies as a regulatory and innovation advisor in Latin America and Europe and currently, she is coordinating the INNOSUP-1 project VIDA, supporting over 100 SMEs innovating in the Food/Water/Energy nexus.

Francis BERTRAND

Francis BERTRAND is the Executive Director of France Water Team. Previously Director of the DREAM Water and Environment cluster, he also held several positions at BRGM dealing with its subsidiaries and holdings, international development and IT division. He has been evaluator for the EC several times and participated in the negotiation of the INSPIRE Directive as a technical expert.

Hein MOLENKAMP

Hein Molenkamp has helped to position the Water Alliance as one of the leading global water clusters, bringing together public and private companies, government agencies and knowledge institutes to help new businesses develop into the international water market. Water Alliance is based at Water Campus Leeuwarden, also known as the European Water Technology Hub.

Isaac NAVARRO

Isaac NAVARRO is the Chairman of ZINNAE, the Water Cluster in Aragon (Spain). Isaac Navarro has served as Chief Executive Officer of Contazara, S.A. since 2012. Contazara is a leader company in smart water metering technologies. He joined Contazara in 1996 and Arad Group in 2009.

Prior to his appointment as Contazara’s CEO, Isaac served in several positions in Contazara including QEHS and Technical Director. During these years, he led the technological evolution and the excellence performance of the company.Isaac holds a Degree in Industrial Technical Engineering from Zaragoza University and an Executive MBA.

Joaquín MURRIA

Joaquín MURRIA participates in collaborative projects in the field of engineering since 2004, involved in both technical and management tasks. He has more than 16 years of experience, developing over 50% of his career in the international area and primarily working in projects related to the water sector and R&D activities. Since 2014 Joaquín Murría is CEO of Ingeobras, leading to the development of the own technology for nitrates removal: PUREMUST-SN. Moreover, since February 2019 he is leading the development of ANAERGY technology, with the funding support of the EU Programme H2020 SME Instrument Phase 2.

Johanna CASTEL 

Johanna CASTEL has been working as Project officer at Cap Digital (French hub for digital and ecological transformation) for more than six years. She is responsible for animating the Smart Territories and Sustainable City communities and manages several key urban innovation projects. She previously worked as a business developer in a European consultant firm specialised in the evaluation of R&D and innovation public policies.

Jeroen RIJNHART


Jeroen RIJNHART - the CEO of CEW- is coordinating the tasks and activities of the projects for CEW. He has 28 years of experience managing complex international multi-stakeholder projects and cooperation between European partners, of which 15 years as managing director of companies with a turnover > E 100 min. During his career in consulting & engineering services he was among others responsible for technology development and European sales in water & energy services. At the University of Utrecht he was involved in the development and execution of the Master Sustainable business innovation in general and the topic resource recovery more specifically. He is a specialist in business development.

Marc PATTINSON


Marc PATTINSON is a Director of the consultancy group GAC TSD based in Sophia Antipolis in France. He specialises in the preparation of innovation strategies, policy analysis and evaluation and interregional cooperation facilitation.  He led the team that established the European Cluster Collaboration Platform (2016-20) for DG GROW and supported several S3P partnerships as part of the ReConfirm initiative and is currently the lead innovation and research policy expert for the Interreg Europe Policy Learning Platform team.

Marek PRZEOR

Marek PRZEOR is a team leader responsible for cluster policy in DG GROW since May 2020. He was previously a team leader for Smart Growth in DG REGIO (2013-20) and a programme manager in DG REGIO for national and regional operational programmes (2009-13). He joined the European Commission in January 2004 as a policy officer in DG ENTR. Since 1996 he has worked in the banking sector and top-management consulting services. He graduated from the Warsaw School of Economics in 1997 in finance and banking and international economic and political relations. He has a Master of Business Administration by Warsaw University and the Free University of Brussels and has also completed a PhD study programme in the Faculty of Management at Warsaw University.

Pieter DE JONG

Pieter DE JONG is the European representative of Wetsus & WaterCampus Leeuwarden. Pieter de Jong is an environmental engineer with 12 years of experience working in Brussels. Pieter is active in European policies of education, research, innovation, regional policies, environmental policies and in particular water policies. Pieter has been a board member of ERRIN, the European network for innovative regions, for the past 6 years. Pieter has contributed to the establishment of European Platforms of Vocational Excellence, initiated interregional collaboration through Interreg Europe project iWATERMAP and expanded this through S3P Water Smart Territories. WaterCampus is active in Horizon Europe, Erasmus, Life, Interreg A, B & C, ERDF, Single Market Programme and the ETS Innovation Fund.
